Bubble Tea and Banging Teriyaki Chicken in Finsbury Park

Written by: Tavia Davies

We’ve been going back almost every day since we stumbled across this local hero

A bubble tea place in Finsbury Park? That also does a bangin’ teriyaki chicken rice box? Uh, hell yeah. This little gem quietly opened up last March on Wells Terrace. Y’know the spot where folks bumble off the most crowded bus in the entirety of London and damn near break a hip scampering for the tube round the corner? Yeah, that little pocket of Finsbury Park.

Don & Co is squidged in between an indie phone shop and a nondescript fashion store, a bit easy to miss if you don’t know what you’re looking for. We’re letting you in on this secret, but don’t tell too many people, yeah?

So take your seat on the yellow bar chairs, lean over the chipboard table, maybe stroke the tabletop bonsai tree, and peruse their offerings. There’s a selection of four rice boxes to choose from. Don & Co must’ve taken a few smart tips from the legend that is Gordon Ramsay. Simplify the f*cking menu!

So far we’ve had the Braised Pork and Teriyaki Chicken and good lord we cannae get enough. For only about six squids, you get a heap of perfectly cooked rice slathered in saucy meaty goodness with a cheeky slapping of veg thrown in. If you’re lucky, you get a hard boiled egg that’s been cooked in some marvelous broth or method that turns it all brown and umami-y. And vegetarians need not have FOMO, there’s a Mixed Veg rice box for you too.

Their bubble tea? Amazing. Tremendous. Huge. No, really! We’ve been going back almost every day since we stumbled across this local hero two weeks ago, if not for the rice then for the bubble tea. Specifically the chocolate milk bubble tea with tapioca balls.

To be honest, it’s so good we haven’t even tried the other flavours and combinations. A mix of watermelon fruit milk tea with lychee jelly does sound pretty good though… Let us know what it’s like?

They’re open 12pm til 10pm, Monday thru Saturday (open til 7pm on Sundays). Which means you can inhale tea and scoff rice for lunch and dinner every single damn day. And for second dinner, after stumbling out of The Worlds End while you wait for the W7 home, obvs.

This place ain’t got none of y’all fuss or frills. None of your la-di-da kale-infused quinoa or your hand-pulled bacon crisps (although those both sound kind of good).

It’s just got proper good bubble tea and homecooked-stylee meal boxes.

Hats off to ya, Don & Co. You’ve won us over.

Open: 12 til 10pm Mon – Sat, 12 til 7pm Sundays

Banh Mi and Friends at Pho Hot Holloway

Flocking to Holloway Road on one of the many Sundays that we’ve spent at the Nag’s Head Car Boot Sale, we spotted a new Vietnamese place called Pho Hot getting ready to open up their doors. Being the nosy folks we are, we peeked inside and spotted a menu. Banh Mi was on it. It's a baguette, but not as you know it. Glory of all glories! It’s been far too long since I last consumed this distinctive sarnie and I'm happy as Larry that there's a new Banh Mi joint on my doorstep.

Local Thinking, Craft Beer Drinking: Brave Sir Robin Launches in Crouch Hill

Carouse founders Chris, Theo and Ben – the charming folk behind Kentish Town’s Rose and Crown – have a new venture afoot and we couldn’t be more bloody excited to see it. We’ve been creeping in their windows, peering through the paint and sneaking glimpses at builders’ bums for a few months now (okay, maybe not the last one), watching these guys transform this cosy corner of Crouch Hill into a rather cool little boozer. Now they’re opening and everyone is invited. Come one, come all, and try all 20 of their beers on tap with us.

Go Your Own Way at Skins' Fleetwood Mac & Cheese Night

Rich, fried, buttery, potato-y vessels loaded with flavor combinations that go down rather well with craft beer, late nights and good times. Ha, who am I kidding, EVERYTHING goes down well with beer. You heard that right buddy, loaded potato skins are back with a bang (and a generous portion of bacon) and are currently being served at Old Street's The Magic Roundabout by street food pop-up Skins and we could not be any happier. Well, unless they were to stuff it with, say, Mac and Cheese or risotto. Oh, that's exactly what they do? Well paint me green and call me a cucumber.

Drink, Feast, Conquer, Repeat. Thor's Tipi Bar Has Arrived.

Who doesn’t love a cheeky statistic, correctly sourced? You know we do. Well, did you know that for every £1 spent with a small business, 63p is re-spent in the local area, as opposed to a measly 40p in every £1 re-spent locally with larger businesses? An absolute travesty, am I right? That 23p has to mean something, right, guys?! Guys? Guys, where are you going? Wait, there’s freebies involved too!

Top 4 'Christmas is just a bad excuse for a' Winter Markets
