The very same can be said of Kerb Street Food’s latest event organisers.
The amount of quality vegetarian food stalls they’ve gathered together for us is teetering on the downright unreasonable. It’s not fair on our stomachs, nor on our eyes that are bigger than said stomachs.
Eight vegan loving, mouth watering contenders are battling it out this weekend at #LivingOnTheVedge.
Over Friday and Saturday at Kings Cross you can navigate amongst non vegan sounding delights such as deep fried buffalo wings, BBQ bahn mi and ‘chicken’ sliders.
For the sweet tooth (that’s all of us really isn’t it) there are Young Vegans chocolate peanut butter mud pie brownies to be had, all washed down with a well stocked bar serving up some vegan specials.
Our best guess to win the Kerb Golden Carrot is the Greedy Khao thai red curry, with tofu and butternut squash pillows on soy sesame slaw and horn mali rice. Or perhaps it will be reigning champions, Petare with their Venezuelan chip butty: arepa stuffed with cassava chips, sweet fried plantain, ‘feta’, avocado and garlic sauce.
No, wait, it’s got to be Lemlem Kitchen and their afro-taco served on injera with a red cabbage and ginger slaw with pickled chillies and seeds. Surely? Oh who even knows! Chow down and be merry!
Every ticket holder receives eight portions (one dish from every trader with the option to buy extra portions of course. We are hungry beasts) plus a free cocktail on entry.
Once you’ve tried all 8 you can vote for your favourite at the VEG wall of fame. Dine wisely veganists. Your time has come.

By gum there are a lot of winter markets this year. Fueled by sickly sweet mulled wine and overpriced pulled pork sliders, we’ve managed to wade our way through the murky waters of winter markets and find some decent looking ones round this here part of town. Getting shouted at by a burly prison guard with a buzz cut and an offensively loud American accent isn't usually the way one wishes to begin one's night. Yes, after months of campaigning for funding and volunteers, New Beacon Books has reopened after threat of closure with a brand new refurb to boot. Established in 1966 by John La Rose and Sarah White, New Beacon Books is the UKs longest running independent bookshop specialising in African-Caribbean literature, cards and artwork.
