Millenial Munchers Heaven: Cookie Dough Cafe

The last time I had a beach holiday I spent the evening before the flight eating raw cookie dough staring at my brand new, unpacked bikini.
The last time I tried baking for friends I ended up on the sofa apologising while spooning the raw cake mix out of a bowl.
On both occasions I lamented my life choices whilst cradling my bloated stomach in the foetal position, then reaching for just one more spoonful. Waste not want not.
It’s not a pretty sight, but the urges are strong.
So thank goodness to be, these scenes can come to a timely end. Naked Dough have apparated like a pair of beautiful fairy godmothers to lead me to an edible cookie dough dance party. Plus they didn’t even tell me what I should wear, they genuinely don’t care.
Naked Dough is a new restaurant serving edible cookie dough from tubs, cones and even carry home pots. The ingredients are raw egg free and the flour is heat-treated so you need not worry-like-Edwina-Currie about salmonella and stomach bloat (unless you’re gluten free of course. In which case I’m sorry you’ve stumbled upon this torture page of an article).
Cofounder Jen was once an office based, desk chained city worker with dreams of pastry, chocolate and baking clouding over her computer screen. In 2012 she finally had the last cheese straw and decided to leave it all to move to the home of pastries.
She became a pastry chef in France and worked in a Michelin star restaurant before coming back to the UK to work on various food based projects.
Suddenly news of the cookie dough craze of the US spread to the UK and had us all salivating watching BuzzFeed videos of raw cookie dough cafes and restaurants spooning out tubs of the good stuff in magical flavours. Jen knew she had to save us from our unfulfilled doughy pervings. She got Hannah on board – both a marketing and creative genius with a shared appreciation of the cookie dough phenomenon. Hannah is marketing and partnerships manager at Khoolect and foodie is the name of her game.
Toppings include Unicorn Food (marshmallows and sprinkles) and the Ed Sheeran (salted caramel and honeycomb). A true millennial munchers menu.
“The dough can last a few hours out of the fridge while you walk along trying to savour each flavour. If you’re attempting to save it for a Friday night in front of your favourite flick in your PJs (good luck) then it needs to be stored in the fridge for a maximum of three weeks.”
They also cater for your cookie urges. Send them an email and have a good old chinwag about your needs. I might invite them to my birthday. Not for cookie dough, just cos they sound nice.
Naked Dough is due to open from 6th June at Old Street Underground, EC1Y 1BE. We can’t physically wait.
Hivemind are coming to the Hen and Chickens Theatre this Summer with a cracker of an innovative show. Three directors try to win over the audience with improvised stories acted out by the rest of the Hivemind cast on the spur of the moment. As each scene ends you decide whether to “stick” and see where the story goes or “twist” and let the next director take over. The director who ends up with the least scenes acted out has to pay a ‘terrible forfeit’. Told you it was harsh.
We have been wondering whether or not to share this secret gem with you for a while now. Having walked past Cazenove Road on many a drunken occasion, we’d spotted The Lacy Nook A Board luring us inwards with a siren’s call of cocktails and beer garden. This year, Playing Up have commissioned a new play by Sophie Ellerby (HighTide First Commissions Writer and NYT REP Company 2013), Three, which will be staged at the Arcola Theatre from 20th to 22nd July. Registered charity, All Dogs Matter are a dog rehoming centre based in Archway. They use a mixture of foster homes and kennel spaces to house their dogs, who are each looking to be fostered or adopted. Occasionally we look through their profiles of beautiful singletons looking for love and feature one at random. We interviewed one newly single lady in particular called Lottie. A fun spirited character with smooth hair and a huge grin, Lottie was a right laugh.
