Pop Up Hiver Honey Beer Brunch

Written by: Sophie Taylor

Q: What is a bee’s favourite part of a relationship?

A: The Honeymoon period.

IN OTHER NEWS, did you know sales of craft beer have grown between 14% – 17% every single year for the last five years?

Also and entirely unrelated, have you ever tried a craft beer made of honey?

If the answer’s yes, you most likely found it particularly sugary. Well so did former beer producer, Hannah Rhodes.

Intrigued and driven by an unrelenting passion for all things beery and bee-ry (geddit?), Hannah’s fascination found her opening the door to her own small brewery. Hiver Brewery blends contain 20% locally sourced honey from rural London beekeepers to give them their distinctive taste without being too sickly sweet. Hiver blond beer, for instance, is made with lager yeast for a crisp, clean base. Fans include chef Tom Kerridge and Stuart Rose of Ocado who crowned Hiver Britain’s Next Top Supplier.

Speaking to Real Business last year, Hannah waxes lyrical:

“I think Hiver has the opportunity to grow into a strong national craft beer brand both at home and abroad but the dream was really to start something that I was proud of, that gave back in some way.”

10% of all Hiver profits go to urban beekeepers and pollinator charities. They’re incredibly commited to sustainability and run an all British product from top to bottom, with a teeny tiny carbon footprint.

Now to the brunch bit. This month, John Salt of Islington have developed an exclusive brunch menu with a honeyed twist to coincide with Hiver Brewery who will be launching their honey blonde on draft. This particular pint is fermented with British ingredients, Urban London, English Blossom and Heather honeys for a creamy and refreshing taste.

Brunch options include Pumpkin waffle, crushed avocado, poached egg, smoked pulled pork and french toast with caramelised banana. DRIVER FOLLOW THAT JOHN SALT VAN TO ISLINGTON.

So pop along and enjoy a complementary Hiver Honey Beer while taking part in a beer label making workshop. Oh yes! There’ll be prizes for the best label and a surprise honey cocktail.

Then, take your design home and share it with us @JohnSaltN1 or on Hiver’s Twitter page @HiverBeers to really get in with the cool kids of insta.

More fun facts: The workshop and Hiver honey beer tasting is 100% FREE.

Now they’re opening and everyone is invited. Come one, come all, and try all 20 of their beers on tap with us.

Go Your Own Way at Skins' Fleetwood Mac & Cheese Night

Rich, fried, buttery, potato-y vessels loaded with flavor combinations that go down rather well with craft beer, late nights and good times. Ha, who am I kidding, EVERYTHING goes down well with beer. You heard that right buddy, loaded potato skins are back with a bang (and a generous portion of bacon) and are currently being served at Old Street's The Magic Roundabout by street food pop-up Skins and we could not be any happier. Well, unless they were to stuff it with, say, Mac and Cheese or risotto. Oh, that's exactly what they do? Well paint me green and call me a cucumber.
